I actually remembered to ask my aunt about interning…she said she is not opposed to it but she would prolly make you sign a non compete clause since sedalia is so close to marshall so I dont think that would work well for you.
About Me
My name is Tammy Goodwin. I am a student at UCM which stands for The University of Central Missouri. I am what is considered a non-tradition student since I am a parent and am not of the traditional age of the average student. I am the very first person in my family to go to college. Attending school is tough sometimes, mostly because my priorities are very different from a single, childless, 20 year old. I have two kids, Logan is 6 and Leia (and yes her father is a Star Wars fan) is 3. I am very proud of both of them. One of the reasons that I went back to school was because of my son. I was thinking, “how can I expect my son to value an education if I don’t have one?” So I went back in 2002. I aquired an AA degree from SFCC, State Fair Community College, in Sedalia, which is where I live. I actually amazed myself, it turns out I am pretty smart. Something I didn’t realize until then.
I worked at Wal-Mart in the photo center for 7 very long years. I always had a love for photography, but after seeing how, ummm how should I say this, not so great most people are at taking pictures, I realized that I just might be able to persue a dream and be successful. So I took all that I learned from Wal-Mart, plus my profit sharing, and took a giant leap towards school.
Now, I have been photographing weddings for three years. I started out using film, which can be very expensive. Now I use a Canon 20D, which I like very much, but not so much that I don’t desire something better.
I also take an occasional family or senior portrait. Among those occasional working opportunities, I have also been a photographer for the Missouri State Fair. This is something that is not really related to my ultimate goal, but I rather enjoy doing it. It is a very dirty, very hot job. And the pay really needs to be higher, however, I have met a lot of other photographers who have helped me along the way. So I will probably continue working for the fair in comming years.
I am also married. I have been with my husband, Robert, for a very long time now. Okay, 15 years, 13 of which we have been married. I realize that this will show my age, but who wouldn’t be proud of a marriage that has lasted this long? Exspecially in todays world where the divorce rate is 50%.
So, I will be graduating in December of 2008. My goal is to have my own studio in Sedalia, Mo. There are a lot of photographers already there, but I am up for the challenge I suppose.
And that is a bit about me. Thanks for reading.
